This is an abstract whimsical painting using mixed media watercolor, gold acrylic paint and pen and ink in this original painting. Los Angeles' Chinatown brings back childhood memories to me as this was the city that I grew up in as a child. I remember my parent's taking me every Chinese New Year to witness the parade, lion dancing, and firecrackers in Chinatown. I have been always wanting to paint a Chinatown LA painting 10 years ago when I worked for the Chinatown Service Center's youth dept and always frequented the area and am so proud of how it became a Business Improvement District and became an artistic vibrant town! Chinatown is a now a center of art and tourism, an area full of color and I just love the year round red lanterns hung all over the city. I'm happy to be able to share my Chinese heritage through this painting. The two koi fish in a pond in Chinatown symbolizes prosperity, energy and good fortune and can be found in the wishing well there. I painted the pond and pink lotuses with watercolor and lined the lotus and leaves and water in watercolor and splashed some white ink over the fish to symbolize water's movements. I lined the pink lotuses with pink pen and ink. I used gold acrylic ink on the lanterns on the top and tassle to add a hint of sparkle to them. I've also lined the lotus leaf with green pen & ink. This is a one of a kind abstract Chinatown Chinese New Year watercolor koi piece looks great framed in your living room, dining room or office!
